Article 2. What exactly is a USB flash drive?

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus and was the mechanism designed in the 1990s to simplify the connections between devices that attach to computers such as printers, cameras, MP3 players etc. It has now effectively replaced other types of connectors and is the industry standard.

USB flash drives have the same purpose as their forerunner, the floppy disk, and that is as a storage device that can be used

to transport files from one computer to another. A USB flash drive literally is a mass storage device that contains flash memory (a computer chip that acts as a memory store) with a USB mechanism.
